Overview: Amaterra is a sustainable and ethical chocolate company that doesn’t assume the customer’s familiarity with complex sustainable forestry techniques.

Problem: Producing sustainable chocolate is a complex process this isn’t explained in an accessible way by sustainable chocolate companies.

Solution: This packaging project leverages design through messaging and icons to communicate the process of sustainable cocoa production. By simplifying the process of producing a sustainable chocolate bar into a digestible series of icons, Amaterra educates customers so that they can make more informed choices in the future.

Research

By looking at other sustainable chocolate companies, I was able to determine that there was an opportunity for more successful visual communication of the process of growing and producing sustainable chocolate.

I created a moodboard based on design and illustration that conveyed a connection to raw ingredients and growing practices.

Typography Moodboard

I created a typographic moodboard based on friendly and playful type that would appeal to the desired Gen Z–Gen X demographic.
